Weather strip and caulk leaks around your windows and doors. This will keep cool air in during the summer, and prevent drafts during the winter. Don’t forget to check around electrical sockets and baseboards. Also, add extra insulation in your attic to keep your home warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. 
Open them in the winter to let the sun’s warmth in; keep them closed in the summer to keep the heat out.
You should change your air filters every month to help decrease heating and cooling costs. Mark your calendar!
Making sure your vents are free of obstructions is a great way to increase airflow and decrease energy use.
While it’s always a good idea to turn off lights when not in use, it is especially good to remember this during the summer. Lights generate heat, which cause your air conditioner to work harder.
It’s a good idea to check caulking and weather stripping around doors and windows, as well as any pipes going outdoors.
When using a washing machine use cold water when you can. Many fabrics do best in cold water.Always rinse in cold water.
Use a fast spin to extract as much water as possible from your clothes and reduce the time your clothes spend in the dryer.
When using the dryer clean the lint filter after every load. Your clothes do not have to be completely dry. It’s better that they be hung up slightly damp.

In the summer, utilize your outdoor grill to keep from adding heat to your home with oven use. Microwave ovens are great too.

When shopping for new appliances, always look for an ENERGY STAR® label.
For each degree lower you set your thermostat, you could save 5% on your electric bill.
Unplug items that are not in use. Try a power strip for your television, video games, DVD players, etc. When you’re done with those items, just flip the power strip off. And don’t forget to unplug chargers once the batteries are charged.
