Dr. Libby Maddux

Dr. Maddux grew up in Western Kentucky, first showing horses in the AQHA circuit then opting for the faster pace of the rodeo arena.  Here she competed at the high school level and continued at the collegiate and open level, while obtaining her degree from Murray State University.  She then attended Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in May of 2007.

Following graduation, Libby joined Merritt and Associates Equine Hospital, a cutting edge Equine Sports Medicine, lameness, and referral hospital outside of Chicago.  This very intensive one year internship allowed Libby to work with a very diverse group of horses from various disciplines across the country.

Following her internship, Libby joined Franklin Equine Services, a general equine practice in Franklin, Tennessee.  Here Libby spent two years sharpening her skills in reproduction, medicine, dentistry, and herd health, while maintaining her focus on lameness and sports medicine.

In 2011 Libby returned to Western Kentucky and established Maddux Equine Services.  Through the new practice Libby will strive to meet all the health care needs of the horses in Western Kentucky and the surrounding area, while maintaining her interest in sports medicine.

In her free time Libby still enjoys riding some of her horses and the occasional opportunity to compete in any kind of equine activity.  When she’s not working with or riding horses, she enjoys, fishing, boating, and travel.

Susan Bennett

Susan keeps the office running at Maddux Equine Services by handling the day-to-day paperwork, scheduling, and answering the phone.  Susan’s voice is the one you will hear on the other end of the line when you call, and the first face you will see when you stop by the clinic for a visit. Susan will be glad to assist you in any way, and she has many years of experience in the office and with clinical procedures, having worked in both physician and veterinary clinics.

Susan has many years of equine experience as well.  She and her husband Rod are active in the rodeo arena, first through competition, and now by raising and leasing Corriente cattle for competition in the calf roping, steer wrestling, and team roping events.  They also help organize different ropings, team pennings and other types of events, as well as help out with the Kentucky Junior Rodeo Association and the Murray State Rodeo Program’s rodeos and jackpots.  If you participate or attend any of these events in the surrounding areas, you’re likely to run into one or both of them.

Dale Kemper

Dale is Dr. Maddux’s veterinary assistant.  Dale assists in many ways from holding the horses while Dr. Maddux is working on them, to taking radiographs, and assisting in some procedures.  He not only assists her with patients, but also makes sure that all of the equipment is running properly, that the clinic is in order, and that the truck is stocked and road ready.

You’ll see Dale on appointments both in the field as well as in the clinic.  He also brings many years of equine experience to the clinic.  Dale has raised many quarter horse foals but enjoys working with horses of all types.

Once an avid trail rider, Dale has ridden many miles in the surrounding states, making the Eminence trail ride an annual event for many years.  You might still run into Dale and wife Janet out on the trail. Dale has also taken a strong interest in cowboy cooking.  He enjoys practicing the art over his large BBQ pit and is in the process of building an out door fireplace to expand his cowboy culinary cuisine.
